just a (running) fool

A look back at the week that was

By resurrecting this blog, I believe that I may have helped resurrect my running, at least to some degree. While I haven’t gotten up at 6 a.m. or 7 a.m. every day, I have gotten out the door every day for a run up until today. I decided to take a rest day today and go back out for a long run tomorrow.

  • Monday: As mentioned in a previous post, I made it to the gym and ran 2.5 miles in half an hour.
  • Tuesday: I went up Mount Tom the steep way and then came down the less steep way. Unfortunately, it was a little later in the morning, so was pretty warm.
  • Wednesday: After a day where I didn’t get up early and didn’t feel like going out for a run, I went for a short run on trails around my neighborhood.
  • Thursday: Again, not as early as I wanted to arise, but not as late as Tuesday. I went up Mount Tom the steep way again and came down the steep way this time. I tried favoring my left leg, but my right shin is still feeling it. No question that I need to get into the gym to strengthen my shins, but also stretch more than I have been (which has been nonexistent).
  • Friday: Like mentioned earlier, taking day off.

One thing I do know is that I still would like to get up earlier than I have been, although it won’t be O440 like Lynne, one of my friends on SparkPeople. Even with only a part-time job as a newspaper correspondent, I still have too much to do in my day and if I don’t get out the door to run in the morning, then something inevitably comes along to make sure that I don’t get out the door to run at all.

But even though I haven’t made much progress on getting up earlier to run this week, I am not beating myself up about it. At least, I’ve been exercising every day. Now to focus on the other part: getting up earlier every day to run.
