just a (running) fool

Another weekend, another race

Tomorrow about this time, 11 a.m., I should be finished with what will be my 15th race since I began running in 2004. It’s the Guthrie Gallop 10K in Sayre, Pa. and should be, unless I’m missing something, which I might be, a relatively flat course through the town. The race has both a 5K and a 10K, but after doing an 8-mile trail run and not doing a lot of mileage this week (2 so far), I’m thinking I’ll go for the 10K (6.2 miles). After doing 8 miles, I think going to 3 miles might be a little bit of a letdown.

It will be my first 10K, but after doing a half marathon and an 8-miler, I’m not real concerned. The only thing is this weekend, I want to be able to get a good sleep before the race. Hopefully, tonight I’ll be able to do that. I’ll be staying at my sister’s in Athens, which is the town right next to Sayre. We’ll be going to brunch after the race. The only thing I might take some whey protein powder that I have tonight to give me an extra boost for the race. I’m sure that it won’t hurt. I know I just had one this morning and I’m feeling like I could run around Wellsboro right now.

Clarification from last blog: after e-mailing the race designer on a different matter, I learned that the race (http://catclassic.net) I did last weekend was 8 miles, not the 7.57 as previously reported. That was from an elevation graph on the website, but I think he added in an extra 1/2 mile somewhere.

I’ll report in on Sunday or Monday. Going to parents for a weekend with the parents (watching NASCAR with my father on Saturday night: go, Jeff Gordon, go! and then celebrating Mother’s Day with my mother and sister — a new mother, as of last year — on Sunday). See you all after the weekend.
